Moorland Caver
A guide to the caves of the North Yorkshire Moors
In 2003 Jerry GIbbs and Rick Stewart published the first definitive guide to the caves and windypits of the North Yorkshire Moors.
Written by real enthusiasts, the book was a guide to a little known caving area often forgotten by mainstream cavers on their way to the Dales or Peak district, but offering some challenging sport. There are opportunities for reasearch in the unique environment of the Windypits, cave digging and the real possibility for discovering something new.
Since the books' publication a great deal has happened in the area and some big discoveries have been made. Most notable is the 2.5km long Excalibur Pot - a length and structure of cave not through to have been possible in the Jurassic limestone of the North York Moors.
